Let the whole city eat
Our petition will be handed over on May 5th! Join us!
We, involved residents, food initiatives, and civil society organizations, want the new city council to work on the following condition to be able to feed the entire city of Amsterdam.

Our demands
To the political parties of the Municipality of Amsterdam

Day in, day out, we are building a city of solidarity that cares for its people. And that is necessary, because 1 in 8 Amsterdammers lives in food insecurity. Among low-income households, this is even 1 in 3. This while we waste 166 million kilos of food per year in Amsterdam....
Those are ugly potatoes deemed unfit for consumption, carrots with some soil still on them cannot be accepted by the Food Bank, crates of grapes where a few are starting to mold (but the rest are still good). Even with all 600 initiatives (volunteers, suppliers, community kitchens, community centers, places of worship, preservers) combined, we cannot manage to feed everyone healthily.
The Municipality of Amsterdam's research agency has also found that volunteers in the food sector save millions of euros in waste processing costs! We therefore need politicians to take this seriously.
Help Out
With your help, we will reach 10,000 votes. Every signature counts! Voedselcirkel Amsterdam can only continue thanks to volunteers who tirelessly dedicate themselves time and again to saving, preserving, distributing, and passing on food.
Handing in the petition with an exceptionally large number of signatures means that satisfaction, justice, and perseverance always prevail... that your commitment as a neighbor, delivery person, and manager matters in the city!

Come to the Freedom Meal
May 1st in HalWest

And then something to eat!
The food heroes of Amsterdam deserve to be put in the spotlight too! Those who come to deliver the food in the early morning, who clean and repack it, who keep up the administration, keep the warehouse clean, rally volunteers, and raise awareness about sustainability and food (in)security.
Together with the Committee for 4 & 5 May, Voedselcirkel Amsterdam is therefore organizing a Freedom Meal. This is a lunch of rescued food on Tuesday, May 5 – it starts at 12:00 PM and runs until 3:30 PM. It takes place at HalWest, De Hallen Amsterdam. The petition will be handed over to the new city council.
